Earnest Lorain Buck
Earnest L. Buck, 77, of Ripley, died Sunday, March 13, 2005, at Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington, Ky., following a short illness. He was born Feb. 1, 1928 in Roane County, son of the late Vallard and Myrtle Steinbeck Buck.
Mr. Buck was a Ripley High School graduate, a 1952 graduate of Marshall University with a Bachelor of Arts, served in the U.S. Army (#1 Calvary Division) stationed in Tokyo, Japan and was married to the late Betty Frazier Buck for 57 years.
He was retired from Nabisco, Inc. After 38 years of service as a Sales Representative, former president of Recreation Enterprises (Rippling Waters), and operated a local taxi service and a small trucking business.
His public service included a member of Ripley City Council, Sanitation Board and Jackson County Housing Authority.
He was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church, member of Ripley Mason Lodge #16, Shriner, Scottish Rite and York Rite, and a former member of the Ripley Volunteer Fire Department, and Ripley Jaycees where he served as president.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Ann Winter.
He is survived by daughter, Jolea Martin (Danny Martin); daughter, Jill Rake (Keith Rake); son, Brent Buck (Tonya Buck); and grandchildren, Hamilton Rake, Grant Rake, Chelsea Martin, Jordan Martin, Alexis Buck, Madison Buck, and Ty Buck.
Memorial service will be Thursday, March 17 at 6 p.m. at the Epworth United Methodist Church in Ripley with the Rev. Dr. Ken Krimmel officiating.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Epworth United Methodist Church Building Fund.
