Elizabeth Ann "Betty" (Pfost) Parsons

Elizabeth Ann “Betty” Parsons (nee Pfost), 89, of Ripley, passed away on Wednesday, November 7 at her home after an extended illness.
Betty was born on July 21, 1923 in Ripley, daughter of the late Marion and Vaun Young Pfost.
She was a 1941 graduate of Ripley High School, attended Penn Hall in Chambersburg, PA, and graduated from Marjorie Webster School in Washington, DC.
Following graduation, she worked a brief time for the State of West Virginia before returning to Ripley to work in family owned businesses, including Pinnell and Pfost Lumber Company. Betty was also a substitute teacher for a short time in the business department at Ripley High School.
She and her husband, the late Harry Parsons, owned and operated the local Western Auto Store from the mid-sixties until it closed in the 1980’s.
Betty was a lifelong member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Ripley and also enjoyed her bridge club and time with “the girls” for over 60 years.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Harry H. Parsons.
Surviving: Sons, Greg Parsons (Betty) of Ripley and Pat Parsons (Debora) of Charleston; Daughter, Dona “Dede” Saffer of Hilsboro and Ripley; Sister, Flora “Flo” Boggs of Keyser, WV; Sister-in-law, Dorthy Hamon of St. Albans; Grandchildren, Chip Parsons (Susie) of Murietta, CA, Mike Parsons (Megan) of Gordonsville, VA, Matt Parsons of Fernandina Beach, FL, Casey Bagby (Chris) of Duluth, GA, Bernie Parsons of Columbus, OH, step-grandson, Garret Stearns of Ripley, Patrick Saffer of Morgantown, Shannon Saffer of Pocahontas County and Nathan Parsons of Charleston; Great-granddaughter, Addison Parsons of Gordonsville, VA.
Funeral Services are set for Saturday, November 10, 2012 at 11 a.m. at Epworth United Methodist Church with Rev. Teresa Deane officiating. Interment will follow the service at Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley.
Friends may call Friday evening from 6-8 p.m. at Waybright Funeral Home, 511 South Church Street, Ripley.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations in memory of Betty be made to Epworth United Methodist Church, 299 North Church Street, Ripley WV, 25271.
