Geneva Gay Canterbury, 92, of Ripley, passed away Sunday, Feb. 20, 2011, at her home following a sudden illness.
She was born Nov. 8, 1918 at Clendenin, W.Va., a daughter of the late Roy and Florence Samples Mick. She graduated from Clendenin High School in 1936 and was the former owner of the Canterbury Shoe Store in Ripley. She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church and was very active in the Rebekah Lodge, Ripley Fire Department Auxiliary, The American Legion Auxiliary and the Order of the Eastern Star. She loved working, being with people and needle point.
She is survived by her daughters, Carol Sue Moore and her husband Phillip of Ripley, Patricia Milam and husband Walter of Kenna, Judy Beha and her husband Tom of Ripley and Peggy Benson and husband Terry of Hagerstown, Md.; grandchildren, Debbie Stout, David (Dianna) Moore, Pam (Steve) Moore, Melissa (Brian) DeFede, Steve (Vickie) Beha, Lynn (Peppy) Benson, Tina (Brian) Anderson and Wayne (Janey) Benson; 21 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Clyde Canterbury and her brothers Roy Mick and Robert "Bob" Mick and sisters Genevieve King and Anna McCartney.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Thursday at the Epworth United Methodist Church, Ripley with Pastor Teresa Deane officiating. Burial will be in the Jackson County Memory Gardens, Cottageville. Friends may call from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at the Waybright Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
