LEROY – Hettie Ella Bailey, 93, of Parrish Hill Road, Leroy, passed away Sunday, December 19, 2010 at Jackson General Hospital following an extended illness.
She was born April 30, 1917 in Roane County, daughter of the late John Wesley and Laura McCoy Fields. Hettie served an entire career as a clerk for the former O.J. Morrison Department Store chain and was a familiar face in both the Ripley and Spencer stores. She was an accomplished quilter, having captured many awards for her craftsmanship throughout the years, a 30 plus year member of Rebekah Lodge #19 of Ripley, a 36 year member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church of Ripley. She enjoyed gardening and cooking, especially for family and friends.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, Ercil B. Bailey, daughter Phyllis Irene Bailey, brothers Ralph, Dolph, Dayton, Chestter, Bruce, Richard and Denver Fields, sisters Chessie Kelley and Margie Cain and one grandson, William Scott Bailey.
She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister and was the last surviving member of her siblings.
Surviving: Sons, Charles L. Bailey (Geneal) of Leroy, Larry E. Bailey (Debbi) of Mossyrock, Washington; Grandchildren, Charles “Chuck” Bailey Jr., Karie Eaton, Larry Bailey Jr., Angela Koenig and Lisa Bailey and eight great-grandchildren.
Funeral services are set for Wednesday, December 22 at 1 p.m. Waybright Funeral Home with Pastor Bob Keen officiating. Private interment will follow at Pine Hill Cemetery, Ripley.
Friends may call two hours prior to the service at the funeral home.
