RIPLEY – John Samson, 89, of Ripley passed away Monday, September 20, 2010 at Cedar Grove Personal Care Home, Parkersburg following a long illness.
John was born September 15, 1921 at Lachine, Quebec, Canada a son of the late Egnat and Sveta Samusevich. He served in the Royal Canadian Air Force during World War II, moved to St. Marys, in 1955 where he was employed at Union Carbide at Long Reach, for 30 years. John loved to travel, Russia was a special place to visit, and he loved to dance.
He is survived by two sons and a daughter, Michael Samson and his wife Carol of Parkersburg, Lawrence Samson of Las Vegas and Debra Sarmiento of Las Vegas; two sisters Ethel Moskaluk of Cheektowaga, NY and Elizabeth (Pat) Tarasevich of Jewett City, CT; also survived by four grandchildren and five great grandchildren and a special friend Leona Sartor.
Four sisters, Annie Samusevich, Mary Pichovich, Lena Gulych and Rose Glenn, preceded him in death. Also proceeded in death by his first wife and mother of his children, Catherine (Kay) Samson and his second wife Colleen Samson.
The family would like to thank his special friend Leona Sartor and the staff of Cedar Grove for all their personal care.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 24, 2010 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley. The family will be accepting friends three hours prior to the service (10 a.m. until 1 p.m.) at the funeral home. His cremains will be placed in the Greenlawn Memorial Park, New Martinsville.
Memorial donation may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
