Opal Lillie (Lowe) Johnson

Opal Lillie Johnson, 84, of Marietta, died Oct. 16, 2011, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

She was born on Nov. 13, 1926, in Elizabeth, W.Va., to James William and Effie Myrtle Cline Lowe.

Opal married James Russell Johnson on June 1, 1942. She was a past member of Epworth United Methodist Church and was a homemaker and farmer with her husband on the family farm. She loved crocheting, genealogy, quilting and bingo at the O'Neill Senior Center.

Opal is survived by three sons, Carl R. (Marilyn) of Marietta, Ralph J. (Virginia) of Cleveland and Ray H. (Penny) of Fleming; a daughter-in-law, Betty Johnson of McConnelsville; 10 grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 13 step great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, who died on Aug. 9, 2011; a son, Raymond C. Johnson; a granddaughter, Jessica Johnson; four sisters; and seven brothers.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday at Barlow Chapel of Cawley & Peoples Funeral Home. The family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Tuesday and also for one hour prior to services on Wednesday. Burial will be in Bartlett Cemetery.
