Ruby Edith Wine Batten, 76, of Ripley, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at her home following a long illness.
She was born Oct. 13, 1935 at Spencer, a daughter of the late C.H. and Cora Atlas Simmons Wine. She was a member of the Spencer High School Class of 1953. She was a member of the Epworth United Methodist Church, where she sang in the choir. She lived an active life and for many years was the majorette sponsor for the Ripley High School Marching Band. She enjoyed golfing and participated in a ladies golf league along with many ladies from Ripley and Spencer. She will be remembered as one who loved her church and family.
She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Frederick "Fred" Batten; her sons, Frederick "Rick" (Charlotte) Batten of Ravenswood, Rodney (Blanca) Batten of Lehigh Acres, Fla. and Ronald (Sharon Callan) Batten of Warner Robbins, Ga.; a brother, Frank (Sharon) Wine of Peniel, W.Va.; grandchildren, Kelsey (Bill) Clough of South Charleston, Emily Batten of Ravenswood, Tyrone Serna, Benito Serna and Josiah Batten, all of Lehigh Acres, Fla. and Krista Batten of Ripley; great-grandchildren, Jadyn Parsons and Jace Starcher of Ripley, Joshua Serna of Quantico, Va., Justin Serna, Jonah Serna, Aaliyah Serna and Josiah Batten, all of Lehigh Acres, Fla. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her siblings, Freda W. Brooks, Arthur B. Wine, Mabel R. Batten, Kenneth R. Wine, Wilma L. Parsons, Mildred G. Foster, Clifford H. Wine and Jackson W. Wine; and a grandchild, Jessica Batten.
Funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, 2012 at the Epworth United Methodist Church, Ripley with Pastors Basil Hensley and Pastor Teresa Deane officiating. Burial will be in the Beech Grove Cemetery, Billings. Friends may call from 4-8 p.m. Monday, May 28, 2012 at the Waybright Funeral Home, Ripley, and one hour prior to the service at the church.
The family suggests donations to Kanawha Hospice, 1606 Kanawha Blvd., Charleston, W.Va. or the Epworth United Methodist Church, Altar Rebuilding Fund, 208 North Church Street, Ripley, WV 25271.
