Delcia (Hall) Kerwood passed away on Monday, September 29, 2014, at Ravenswood Village Nursing Home after an extended illness. At her side were her only son, John, and her daughter-in-law, Lynne, from Atlanta, Georgia.
Delcia was born on April 27, 1922, the daughter of Lessel and Glenn Hall, in Liverpool, West Virginia. Sisters Hallie (Hall) Carney and Dorothy (Hall) Stonestreet, and a brother, Giles Hall, preceded her in death. She is survived by Helen (Hall) Casto of Ripley.
Delcia graduated from Gilmore High School at the age of fifteen. A year later she enrolled for additional education credits at Ripley High School, where she met her future husband, John Kenna Kerwood, Jr. “Dink and “June” were married on July 21, 1940, and they celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary on July 21, 2010. A WWII Marine, John Kenna Kerwood, Jr. passed away that same year, on September 11.
Delcia was a member of Epworth United Methodist Church which she served for a time as Treasurer; a member of Ripley’s Woman’s Club; and the VFW Women’s Auxiliary. She retired from the U. S. Postal Service after serving in positions at the Post Office in Ripley and Parkersburg. She was an avid reader and co-founder of the library at Ravenswood Village Nursing Home.
In addition to her son and daughter-in-law, Delcia is survived by two grandsons, Lt. Colonel John Glenn Kerwood, USMC, his wife Melissa, and Jeffrey Nelson Kerwood, and his wife Amy, all of Atlanta. She was especially proud of her five great grandchildren: Jake (12), Annalyn (6), John William (8), Evan (4) and Nathan (2).
Funeral services will be on Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Epworth United Methodist Church, Pastor Teresa Deane officiating. Visitation starts at 11:00 AM, services begin at 12:00 Noon, followed by a brief burial ceremony at Pine Hill Cemetery. Lunch after the burial will be hosted by the church for immediate family and close friends.
