Jennings Ray Triplett, 89, of Ripley, WV, departed this life January 16, 2014, in Eldercare of Ripley.
He was born November 26, 1924, in Branchland, WV, the only son of Johnny C. and Alma (Hazelett) Triplett.
His wife of 62 years, Helen (McCallister) Triplett, sisters, Regina Maynard (Dors), Virginia Thompson (Dale), Ruth McCallister (Paul), Betty Olson (Tom), and a grandson, Donny Shaffer, also preceded him in death.
He graduated from Huntington High School and was a World War II, United States Army veteran having served in the European Theater with the 764th Railway Shot Battalion. He was the recipient of the Purple Heart. After the war he attended Marshall College (University) under the G.I. Bill. He was a Baptist by faith and last attended the Parchment Valley Baptist Church.
Jennings and his wife, Helen, brought their three children to Jackson County in 1959. He was employed by Kaiser Aluminum and 10 years later became an insurance agent for Mutual of Omaha in Charleston. During retirement, he had a booth at the local flea market where he sold and repaired guitars, knives and harmonicas. He loved music and will best be remembered for singing and playing old standards on his rhythm guitar. He never met a stranger.
He survived by daughters, Celia Parrish and her husband, Larry, of Millwood, WV, and A. Jean Triplett of Ripley; son, Johnny R. Triplett and his wife Leah, of Ravenswood, WV; sister, Margaret Reger (Henry) of Huntington; grandchildren, Todd Parrish (Vicki) of Ripley, Amy Perry (Jim) of Evans, Steve Kelly, Jr. (Teresa) of Ripley, Derrick Shaffer of Ripley, Jonathon Triplett (Heather) of Gallipolis, OH, and Kelsey Smith (Josh) of Parkersburg, and six great grandchildren. He was “Uncle Bub” to many nieces and nephews.
Service will be 3 p.m. Sunday, January 19, 2014, at Casto Funeral Home Chapel, Evans, WV, with Mitch Morrison officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to time of service. Graveside service will be 9 a.m. Monday, January 20, 2014, with full military honors, in the West Virginia National Cemetery, Grafton, WV.
The family would like to thank his friends and “family” at Eldercare for their love and support. We will miss Dad very much, but are comforted that he will be with his loved ones in heaven.
